Insta- less…

It’s a love, hate relationship.

Let me be real honest here, social media and I are not always friends. Somewhere between reaching over to grab my phone and spending hours scrolling first thing in the morning, looking around at a family dinner and seeing everyone glued to their phones, and people seeming to live for the Gram instead for the moment- I started to find myself wanting to go off the grid more & more.

Social media hasn’t been all bad…I have made some of my favorite friendships that started on Instagram, I have booked vendors and found amazing resources, and I have found lots of Inspiration on social media. I think I am pretty old school, but when I put a poll out on social media- 95% agreed to having a love/hate relationship with Instagram! (Turns out I’m not alone!!!)

There were 3 things our community shared to help make social media “serve” you instead of drain you

  1. Hit that MUTE button:

Muting triggering content or anything that just gives you that ‘ugh’ feeling- you know, that feeling when you start to go down the rabbit hole about feeling lesser about yourself? MUTE. The moment you find that something is draining you or making you feel down, let it go. The beauty of the mute button is that it isn’t even permanent (or public). Thank you Insta :)

  2. Focus on quality over quantity when it comes to posting:

One of the most stressful parts of being a business owner is the pressure to feel like you need to post on social media to maintain your success as a business. Yep, pretty much a trapping feeling. The algorithm does reward constant posting, but ultimately QUALITY posts will give your audience more value than QUANTITY- get creative on how to share and partner with other accounts to get more eyes.

  3. It’s ok to take a break:

Sometimes what we really need is just to take a break, to unplug and disconnect. Allow yourself the ability to delete the app from your phone and focus on being present in the moment. Get a good book, light a candle, take a walk, spend time with your dog- anything to get out of your head and into the room you are in.

So…Anyone want to take an intentional break from social media together and connect over email or GroupMe? lol.

Here’s to more moments navigating the complex relationship with social media- we will figure it out together xoxo.

All things good!
